In 2009, Doug was introduced to the world of amateur cosplay when he joined two international Star Wars fan organizations: the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion. These are sister clubs where members are encouraged to research and build screen-accurate costumes based on characters from the Star Wars franchise. Members give back to the community through acts of volunteerism, such as making costumed appearances at children's hospitals, public libraries, and fund-raising events for nonprofits.
In this world, Doug discovered a passion for creative expression, through reverse engineering and replicating costumes and props, teaching himself to sew, sculpt, paint and weather the various components that go into a completed project. Most recently he learned how to 3D print, prep, and paint armour, helmets, and weapons for his "Axe Woves" costume from the "Mandalorian" television series, for which he became the reference guide for the 501st Legion (see here). Doug is also the costume reference model for "Baylan Skoll" from the "Ahsoka" TV series (see here). Doug has become so well known in the cosplay scene in Ontario (and beyond) that many have sought out his expertise in helping build their own costumes.
